Executive Chef

Meanwhile is looking for an experienced, skilled chef who loves to cook. Ours is a small operation so the role of a traditional Executive Chef is not necessary, while the title is available. 

We are looking for an easy going, stable chef who is confident in their own skin. Kitchen is overlooking an intimate dining room. Our guests have become accustomed to being served with high standard of cuisine served in creative but also simple ways: our new chef has to be an excellent cook with innate abilities to understand menu preparation and flavors. We are looking for a chef who cares as best as possible a 'farm-to-table' cuisine as Meanwhile cuisine food philosophy is simple, fresh, clean. 

The head/executive chef is responsible for vendor/farmer relations, placing all kitchen orders, menu creation, providing leadership and direction to their working Sous Chef partner, prepping, cooking, on the line if needed, cleaning, organizing and maintaining reasonable costs. We look to hire someone who understands being a chef in a small establishment. 

The position offers housing, 2 consecutive days off per week, and pay commensurate with experience. It is currently a seasonal (May through October) position but there is the opportunity to grow to year round.

Profile Description

We hope for a reasonable amount of experience (minimum 3-5 years) but rely on passion and capability too. This could be a great opportunity for either a chef looking to cut back a bit from an intense work pace/environment or a younger chef seeking to shine in a premiere multi award winning restaurant. 

Meanwhile’s management style is to empower each employee to make decisions on their own and grow. We choose not to micro-manage unless we have to. Our work environment is relaxed, happy and inspired. We do expect a very strong work ethic and desire to work in well in a team and to continue to push creativity and professionally.

Meanwhile is opening for dinner service only (kitchen opens at 5.00 and takes last order around 8.00 (9.00 summer months) We are offering three course chef tasting (starter, appetizer, main) (dessert optional) with multiple choices. We specialize in wood fired cooking, pasta, and crudo. Menu changes according to what is available and very flexible on chef’s own inspirations and abilities.


Meanwhile is located downtown the coastal town of Belfast, Maine. 

The intimate dining room has 32 indoor seatings (20 patio seatings overlooking the ocean) and restaurant has an unrivaled reputation and offers a warm and authentic immersion into simple fine dining. 

The owners seek to continually improve and enhance every aspect of a guests' dinner and seek to employ a chef with equal passion and creativity. Mediterranean inspired cuisine, extensive wine list, sommelier on site. We seat between 20-30 people on the weekends, 60 people max per night.
